For over 30 years, she has dedicated her life to education, research, and consulting. She is a professor, researcher, and executive at Tecnológico de Monterrey. In the last 14 years of her professional career, she has served as the director of EGADE and the School of Business at the Estado de México Campus (2005-2016), and more recently as the Dean of the School of Business, South Region (2017-2018).
She is a founding member of the Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Practices (STEP) Project since 2006; a global initiative of applied research on family businesses and their transgenerational potential, led by Babson College. She was a member of the Global Board (2008-2010) and leader of the Regional Council (2009-2011) for the Latin America chapter.
Certified in family business consulting by the Family Enterprise Foundation (Canada) since 2010.
She is a thought leader in the country's major media outlets on topics such as Economic and Business Development, Family Businesses, Leadership, and Innovation. Her scientific production includes several book chapters on these topics and articles in specialized journals. She has been invited to various national and international forums as a speaker and instructor.
She holds a Doctorate in Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto. She is a Computer Systems Engineer from Tecnológico de Monterrey and has 2 master's degrees: Computer Sciences and Administration (MBA), also from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
In addition to her academic and research career, María Fonseca is an entrepreneur and led Fábrica de Escobas La Gitana for almost 4 years, a family business founded in 1943 by her grandfather in her native Sinaloa.
